Our Religious Educator

As CUUC’s Religious Educator, Regina McConaghy supports kids, youth, and families in learning about and practicing Unitarian Universalism. She tells stories, leads worship, sings songs, asks questions, facilitates conversations, fosters community, builds relationships, and assists groups in the practice of covenanting. She’s also pretty good at drawing stick figures and fingerpainting. Additionally, Regina coordinates CUUC’s Our Whole Lives Comprehensive Sexuality Education program.

Regina’s approach to faith formation centers joy, awe, connection and solidarity, the cultivation of hope, and building the more-just world we wish to live in. We all have the right to start our learning journeys where we are, but we all have the responsibility to become good ancestors to future generations. She believes that part of the joy and challenge of Unitarian Universalism’s Living Tradition is coming to understand that learning is not just an additive process, but that unlearning is frequently necessary.

Regina holds a B.A. from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, OR, and an M.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She’s studied literature, cultural studies, film, linguistics, Gender and Women’s Studies, and language acquisition. At one point in time, she thought she was going to be a college professor of German literature, but changed her mind about that before she finished her dissertation. She’s also worked as a Labor Union Organizer, a summer camp counselor, a laborer on an organic farm, and a retail clerk in a big box store.

Regina is a member of the Liberal Religious Educators Association and Allies for Racial Equity. She has earned Renaissance Recognition from the UUA for completing 75 hours of training  in the Renaissance Program. Regina lives in Kennewick with her family, their several chickens and their two cats. When not at CUUC, you can frequently find her with her nose in a book, yarn in her hands, her hands in the dirt, or her feet in the water.
